Planet terror compilation by : minimal threat

This weeks review: Planet Terror

Ok so the plan is to countdown the top 20 zombie movies over the next 20 weeks! You may not agree with all of my picks but that is ok. If you don't agree write about it. It is all to make conversation and debate.

                 #20 Grindhouse: Planet Terror

Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror is a gory thrill ride with parts exploitation thrown in. If you are looking for over the top gore than Planet Terror will not only satiate you it will leave you feeling bloated. An A-list cast  acts out this gorefest. The plot, which is mainly nonsensical, is actually funny. It is intended to be cheesy and does its job perfectly. The zombies are created when a military biochemical weapon gets leaked into the air. It starts to make its vitctims seemingly melt into monsterous creatures. The zombies look less dead and more like they have giant tumors all over them. If you have a weak stomach then stay away. Rodriguez successfully tops any gore scene you have seen before. The acting is great. There are some very memorable characters in this movie. El Rey and Cherry Darling will quickly become your two favorite characters. There is also a nice cameo by Tom Savini. The action in this movie is fantastic. El Rey charges through a hospital armed only with butterfly knives and destroys some zeds. Some of it is really over the top but it is meant to be that way. It makes it fun and daring.  The dialogue is hilarious and the film is made to look grainy which adds a nice touch. It is fun, lighthearted, and just a damn good time. Go rent it now.

Land of the Dead Trailer

This weeks preview: land of the Dead

 #19 Land of the Dead

Now weather this movie is good or not is debated a lot amongst zombie movie fans. I, for one, fall into the I think it’s good category. I do believe for a while this was Romero’s weakest effort. That was until Diary of the Dead came along. It is not as great an effort as his first three movies but it still hits hard. As most of Romero’s zombie movies there is some definite political commentary going on. While the social elite sit in their Fiddler’s Green wealth and luxery. The poorer population grovels at their feet struggling to survive. They are not trying to survive zombie attacks but lack of supplies and their own destruction. As in most poorer parts of civilization it seems that lawlessness has taken over. There is drug trade, prostitution, and even humans are fed to zombies for entertainment. As far as zombies go the makeup is fantastic. There is little terror in the movie and not a lot of gore. The zombies themselves seem to be learning. A lot of fans were not happy with this part of the plot but I myself see it as an interesting concept. We assumed that the zombies would just die out but their ability to learn would lead them to eventually become the dominant species. Both the acting and plot are somewhat weak. Despite these things the movie still is entertaining especially to Romero fans. Although it isn’t in the top 5 zombie movies it did make the top 20 for its importance to the genre.

ZOMBIE trailer

#18: Zombie

This late 70s zombie film started the Italian zombie movie boom. Inspired by Dawn of the Dead Lucio Fulci made this clone movie. It is every bit cheesy and fun. The acting is so so and the dialouge is laughable but the effects are super gorey. The splinter in the eye bit is amazing and gross. The cinematography is great as is the atmosphere that Fulci created during the movie. It is a lot of fun and sometimes a lot of fun to make fun of. I mean where else can you find a scene in a movie where a zombie fights a shark. You can only find it here. The amazing thing is that they actually had a guy in zombie makeup do the scene with a live shark. Kudos to that guy for balls the size of Texas! If you don't want anything to serious with some great gore and plenty of laughs then this is the movie for you. WATCH IT!!! NOW!!!!....bitches.

Dead Snow trailer

 DEAD SNOW

Dead Snow seems that is should be awesome at first. I mean Nazi zombies...come on!!! Fucking awesome right! That is not the case here..I mean don't get me wrong zombie nazis are awesome. This movie is just boring. I like campy movies but this just didn't do it for me. The acting is terrible but not in a laughable way just more of a terrible way. It is a foreign film with subtitles. That in and of itself I don't mind but it is in swedish. I just closed my eyes and it sounded like the Swedish Chef from the Muppets was doing all the lines. That was really the only funny part to me. There is no real intensity or thrills in this movie. If you are just head over heels for Nazi zombies then watch it. If you want a good movie then don't. HOnestly I just got really bored watching this movie. Feel free to blast my opinion of this movie. I just think there are too many great Zed movies to waste your time on this one.
